How To Reboot A Bad Day In 10 Minutes Or Less

When your day seems like it's imploding, here are four ways to hit the reset button to clear your mind. We’ve all been there. Your boss schedules an emergency meeting on top of an already jam-packed day. A client calls with a last-minute project. And your new mattress delivery has been rescheduled for a week from Thursday (again). Instead of letting a crummy call or series of unfortunate events set the tone for the rest of your day, try one of these tips to help you step away from the stress and move on.1. Get up and move. Removing yourself from the situation, even for 10 minutes, is helpful. 10 Ways to Stop Feeling Overworked and...

I had just read an early version of a new book and decided to do a quick survey during a speaking engagement. I asked the audience, "How many of you feel overworked and overwhelmed?" As far as I could tell, every hand was raised. No surprise there. We all feel overworked. And we all feel overwhelmed, at least some of the time. (Even if by other people's standards we seem to have it easy, to us it still feels like we're overwhelmed.) Effectively balancing our professional and personal lives is a problem we all struggle with. Maybe that's because we look outside ourselves for solutions: software, apps, devices, time management systems, etc. All of those can help, but as Scott Eblin, author of Overworked and Overwhelmed: The Mindfulness...Read More

Evolution of the Bookkeeper - Energized Accounting

“Do you have what it takes to be a bookkeeper?” asks this short documentary from the 1940’s. “Do you enjoy doing figures? Do you have legible handwriting and a reasonable command of the English language?” Long ago, all you needed was a class in high school to be a bookkeeper. Nowadays, bookkeeping is more complicated and one class is hardly enough. You need to keep up with changing tax laws, financial disclosure rules and the software that records all of your transactions. Still, isn’t it fun to imagine a world where everything clicked so well? Accounts preparation: How to get the price you...

Many accountants tell me that clients are becoming increasingly fee resistant towards annual accounts and tax compliance work.  However, there are many strategies, tactics and techniques you can use to communicate value and price that reduces a clients sensitivity to price.  One proven process is the what I call "The contract renewal letter".  This process enabled me to increase my own fees back in 1999 by nearly 40% with very little adverse reaction.  And in the UK, many accountants I work with have used this process to increase their own fees by over 20%.  I hope you find the video insightful.  And if you have any questions please post them in the comments box underneath the video within YouTube.

That scenario I can almost understand because the EA being a tax professional is accustomed to thinking of everything from the perspective of a tax basis of accounting.
